Visual Scratch
Back in the day, at the very beginning of this project, my main partner in crime was one Mr. Jesse Kriss. On October 14th, 2004, a friend called me with the question: is there any sound cue software for the Mac? I looked around, and while there was stuff out there, it seemed like something was missing. It seemed like there was room for something new. I knew exactly who to call. Jesse Kriss.
Nineteen emails flew back and forth on that October 14th. Jesse wrote in one of them:
“I was seriously considering writing something along these lines just for my own use. If you guys can come up with a list of features and a
deadline, I can tell you what I think I can put together. We might be able to tag team this one, too, depending on everyone’s availability…”
Well, we did tag team it. And four weeks later, we had the first draft of QLab up and singing.
We worked like maniacs—iChatting through the night—Jesse working a day job and me in graduate school. A true labor of love.
Since then, Jesse has gone on to other projects. He’s one of those guys who’s always got something cool on his mind, and the folks at the Collaborative User Experience group at IBM research must have recognized that, ’cause that’s where he is now.
Jesse sent me a link this morning to a little project he’s been cooking up:
I just love me some creative live media performance technology.
